First SPECULOOS 1m-telescope installed at Cerro Paranal, Chile

“EUROPA” is the name of the first one installed in its ASTELCO 6.2m-dome. It will be followed by three more telescopes with 1m aperture, all to be installed in 2017.

SPECULOOS — The Search for habitable Planets EClipsing ULtra-cOOl Stars — is a project of Belgian's Université de Liège, sited at ESO’s Paranal Observatory in Chile’s Atacama desert (there is a sister project in the northern hemisphere to be built soon). Its mission is to detect terrestrial exoplanets around nearby ultracool stars — of spectral type M7 and later — and brown dwarfs. The facility at Paranal, called the SPECULOOS Southern Observatory, comprises four robotic telescopes of Ritchey-Chrétien design, each with a one metre primary mirror and cameras that are highly sensitive in the near-infrared. The telescopes are named after four of Jupiter’s moons: Io, Europa, Ganymede and Callisto.

COATLI Robotic 50cm telescope in ASTELCO ARTS Remote Telescope Station

The COATLI 50cm telescope with a diffraction-limited fast-guiding imager aims to provide 0.3 arcsec FWHM images from 550 to 900nm over a large fraction of the sky. The telescope and enclosure were installed at the Observatorio Astronómico Nacional in Sierra San Pedro Mártir, México, during 2016.
